Review:

we do not know whether our prediction was off by a few days or big slide could still come, considering that the biggest intra day slide of over 300 points came on October 18, 2005 , possibiliy the biggest slide of this year (though september 22 sensex net fall for the day was bigger (265 points)).

However considering that Sensex falls over 150 points every other day, it could take only a whiff of bad news to send the market tumbling.

Based on Tarot cards we attempted to come up with post poll scenario of Bihar State elections

1. Formation of Government: If no government canbe formed or decided upon by November end, government may be formed between Feb 21-March 21 2006 approximately.

2. Who will be next chief Minister?: Cards seems to indicate three things. (a) A woman CM or atleast somebody which requires such blessings to be CM (b) person most likely to be Pisces or Cancerian( in that order) - ( Paswan with support of Sonia Gandhi? ) (c) real serious trouble for whoever becomes CM.

3. Future of Paswan Paswan at the very least likely to keep Laloo-Rabri combine out of power but keeping his flock of MLAs from switching sides will again be a big challenge for him. Political equations may change dramactically for Paswan in post election scenario

4. Future of BJP: Geniune political gains are indicated for BJP & allies in "distant future" ( though Times today has predicted Nitish as next CM)

Review of the week: Sensex regained much of the intra week losses ( start 8211, low 7850?, close 0ver 8065) and many of the Sensex/Nifty stocks closed above last week's closing price ( apart from IT majors). Volatility does not need any mention but while we expected gains during mid pahse of the week- all intra day gains were lost by end of the day ( wednesday,thursday). End of the week was certainly dramatic but we could not fully see in what way the high drama of the end phase of the week ( thursday?, friday) would unfold)

Review: How the day turned out

First part of the prediction was reasonably accurate though rise came somewhat earlier. As indicated the real action came in the last 100 minutes or so - trading period of which we were uncertain. Sharp rise and not a sharp fall followed. Thankfully it helped to salvage our weekly prediction (see above). Both recommended strategies would have given good profits.

After a correction which lasted just before 11 am sensex rose sharplyas predicted . In afternoon it again dipped over 65 points before making the second sharp rise./recovery of the day. Both strategies plus implied stratgey of going short in morning would have fetched huge profits. Overall a near perfect prediction.

What went rightwith our prediction : (1) Morning was most volatile. (2) NASDAQ outperformed DJI though it really would not matter if it had not. (3) Sharp rise and fall in morning and sharp rise in afternoon (4) Most of our strategies except last one would have fetched profits.(4) uncertain component of our prediction- mid session was range bound- only 5 points up and down

What went wrong: We expected (1) volatility in afternoon linked to (2) sharp fall in late afternoon that did not happen. ( though the fault was ours, not in concept of remote day prediction - looking back at cards , fall in afternoon was a low probability event)

Review: How the day turned out

Cards indicated different outcomes for Dow Industrial and NASDAQ and hence we made this distinction in our prediction . DJIA performed well most of the day but closed much lower. NASDAQ however did not met our expectation in this regard. As predicted sharp dip following peaking of indices (local peaking in case of NASDAQ) came in the late afternoon and was relatively more concentrated on NASDAQ. Second strategy of going short would have given good profits.

Today's earthquake and a discussion few days back about role of Rahu in India's destiny prompted us to post this piece.

Last July 31, we posted a small piece titled "Destiny Numbers, (in)Famous events,places etc"
(Read original article by clicking on it). This was followed by numerological analysis of Discovery Mission strangely on August 4 where we mentioned about troublesome numbers 4 and particularly 8. In that list of 8 we did not mention important people like L.K Advani, Uma bharti ,Gautam Goswami who have been unlucky with controversies surrounding them and are actually by name turn out to be number 8 persons. Today's earthquake adds itself to list of traumatic/catastrophic events that have occurred on dates 8 or 4.

( september 22, 256 point fall of sensex?).

Role of Rahu in Indian history. This is different theme than numbers but equally interesting. Rahu , often dreaded like saturn and signifying masses ,outward manifestation of religion among other things is placed in India's lagna or house signifying the body and comletes one turn in around 18-19 years. 1947, 1965,1984, 2002 were years when Rahu had moved into India's body. What is special about these events?.

1. 1947- partition and massacre of Hindus and Muslims
2.1965- war with pakistan and heavy (?) casualities
3. 1984: Assasinationof Mrs Gandhi and massacre of sikhs
4.2002: Godhra and its aftermath

The two themes of blood bath and "communal/religious nature" is common to all these four events.1947 was particulalry bloody possibly because of presence of other malefic planets along with Rahu at that time . Ofcourse a great deal of research is required because other factors are at play and many traumatic events have occurred since Independence outside these dates - some worse than the four mentioned here. But there is clear evidence that 18 year transit of Rahu brings serious trouble for masses.

Why we have not analysed Rahu, 18 year transit over other houses? One reason is that Rahu is present in India's first house signifying the body and therefore its results would in most cases be strongly felt in "physical events" such as the ones related above.

Review of Intra Day Prediction of Dow Jones-Nasdaq on friday Oct 7,2005

For Friday October 7,2005 Our Intra Day Dow Industrial -Nasdaq Prediction was

"Today could be turn-around day for dow-nasdaq. Morning and last two hours could be volatile and although we normally do not predict net gains or losses, today dow-nasdaq could end up with gains. During last two hours of the day a sharp fall and sharp rise is possible and also in morning dow -nasdaq could rise fast amidst volatility. ( see strategies) ".

Review: How the day really turned out

We predicted net gains which proved correct but we expected much more gains. Morning session was quite volatile and both indices really ran up in morning as predicted. Further sharp fall came close to 2pm especially in NASDAQ but recovery was not that significant except in NASDAQ. In view of negative reports on jobs (?) perhaps this was a significant gain. ( NASDAQ in relative terms gained five to six as much as DJIA).

All 3 recommended strategies ( second strategy is mentioned within the first one) would have given some profits unless SL was liberally used

Review What really happened: Market ended with losses not gains. However we predicted strong correction by end of week which occured mostly on Thursday and Friday.

We also predicted for this week as part of our second experiment gains for ten scrips during the week or overall gains. All ten scrips gained udirng the week though obviously "only during the week" and to different extents. The reason for putting together all ten scrips under "overall gains in the week /during the week" was the strong correction we mentioned in our weekly prediction above and hence cards did not indicate if any bounce back will compensate for losses during correction. For the ten scrips the first figure is closing value of last week ( friday, september 30) and second value is highest value attained during the week Oct 3-7 ,2005 ) for each scrip. You can see many scrips gained significantly during the week but not on a week to week basis.

Infosys (2515,2664), Reliance (793,860?), ICICI bank ( 602,615), ONGC (1061,1100), ITC (136,148?), Tisco(423,456), SBI(938,960), TCS (1482,1638?), L&T(1518,1599), Tata Motors ( 534,577)

The prices with "?" mark I have some doubt whether those values were attained during this week. But without doubt all scrips gained during the week.

Our Summary Prediction for DJIA-NASDAQ for Thursday October 06,2005 was

"DJIA-NASDAQ will rise/recover in morning after a brief period of profit booking . However there will be sharp dip and recovery in the mid half of the day ( approx 12 noon-2 pm). Last 2 hours of the day is more uncertain. Last session of 2 hours could be especially volatile and last 70 minutes could see a good rise/recovery. again ".


Review: What actually happened

It was probably one of our best predictions. DJIA fell in morning after a positive opening due to profit booking then rose sharply as predicted.Hence "buy in morning with a delay" strategy would have worked well. Between 12- 2pm there was a sharp dip and recovery ( recovery was about 30 points). As mentioned we were not sure of last two hours of trade but expected sharp rise/recovery in last seventy minutes of day. During that period both DJIA-NASDA showed very good rise. All our three strategies would have given (good) profits.

We predicted on August 08 ,2005 that Baidu shares listed on NASDAQ

1. Will run up in early part of that week before losing value
2. End in August at lower levels
3.Recover in month of September, 2005 but over net 3-6 months no major gains

1. On day of prediction Baidu ran up intra day high of over $150.
2. Lost value but recovered somewhat over next few days
3. Ended August at much lower levels
4. Recovered very well in September but only briefly to fall again

Hence it was not a good investment unless purchased in the end of August for short term

Review: What actually happened

what worked in our prediction (1) Second half was more volatile. (2) Sharp downward adjustment in late morning (3) in DJIA and NASADQ even more so-a smart recovery of about 50 points(DJIA) which commenced at 12 noon. (4) Last 90 minutes saw a huge fall . (5) both strategies would have given profits inspite of an imperfect prediction ( never expect a perfect prediction)

What did not work in our prediction: (1) there was no recovery following sharp fall in late afternoon (2) we only said fall but did not expect such a large fall.

Review: What actually happened

After a weak opening the index reached day's (almost) highest point around 12 noon though the dip after 11 am was not mentioned in our prediction. As predicted the sharp fall of over 120 points from day's high point came in the afternoon. Hence both our recommended stratgeies would have given profits especially the second one. However there was no sustainable, significant recovery after the afternoon fall hence our third high risk strategy would have failed.

Looks can be deceptive.. review of intra day indian stock market prediction Monday October 3,2005

We made a Intra day Prediction for Sensex for October 3,2005 ( monday) based on a truncated model and hence classified as high risk

" Sensex likely to see a significant fall/correction around mid -day to afternoon but is likely to recover in the afternoon. "

There was actually no trade in most of the flat portion of the graph above and hence fall from just after 11 am was almost continous and not flat ( please note this graph from Yahoo is not complete). There have been changes in trade timing at BSE & NSE due to Sun outage with no trade between 11.25-12.05 and that affects the shape of graph and also concept of terms like mid day, afternoon etc. Keeping this in mind we can see that sensex underwent a correction/fall of over 45 points between 11 and 12.45 and thereafter recovered/rose significantly. So inspite of a truncated ( shorter version) of the model and imperfect prediction , there were profit making opportunities based on this tip.
